Artist Statement
As a child, imaginations can become wild, as an adult my imagination soars, pushing limitations. Currently, my work explores themes that express dark lingering emotions within us, such as fear and chaos. By pushing the narrative, I lean onto the mediums to enhance the tone of my work.
In Nowhere to Run or Hide, I applied UV lit paint to express the hidden and unconscious fearful thoughts. In standard light you see a mother reading stories to her child but in the dark, under UV light you see creatures surrounding the figures, symbolizing the child’s fear rooted from their imagination.
Emotions common in the human experience drive the narrative in my work; after experiencing my own dark emotions, I push to lay it across my art with strong tones and a variety of mediums.
